Skincare Research PHD Opportunities

Skincare Research

As part of the Biosciences and Biotechnology Research Council’s (BBSRC) Collaborative Training Partnership initiative the Skincare Research team have started recruitment for their latest cohort of PhD students to start in October 2024.

The collaborative training partnership (CTP) has been designed to give you not only the brilliant scientific training of a standard PhD, but also provide experience and training within a business. You will be supported not only by academic supervisors, but also an industrial supervisor. Through the CTP program you will develop commercial and enterprising skills that will allow you to make valuable contributions to the UK economy in tackling bioscience challenges of the future.

The projects will be placed at multiple UK academic institutions and will focus on delivering world-class bioscience research in skin health to help us tackle important scientific challenges associated with skin’s functional decline with age.

Novel scientific insights will be translated into education and training content and importantly support in the development of new therapeutic interventions including both products and services, to help all people maximise their skin health throughout their lifetime.

In line with our DEI commitments, a key tenant of the CTP will be to address the lack of diversity within skin and cosmetics research, with project outcomes and aims designed from the outset to deliver knowledge and insights that increase our understanding of different skin types.

You will be provided with a diverse, varied and stimulating learning environment, giving you a rich, integrated and applied high quality training experience within both academic and commercial settings. You will benefit from the opportunity to experience placements within the No7 Beauty Company Research team and wider Boots Company PLC business functions with short projects designed to expand your technical skills in an applied way and build other business orientated skills and knowledge.

Through the CTP you will have will access to a team committed to bringing together students and scientists working on skin, giving you the opportunity to collaborate and learn together, enabling you to maximise the impact of your research.
