National Apprenticeship Week 2022

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week we spoke to one of our apprentices, Mia Outram, to find out about her experience as a Prototype Skincare Technician within the Product Development & Delivery team. Thanks Mia for taking the time out to share your experiences with us!

I started at WBA in 2018, leaving high school at 16 and starting a level 3 apprenticeship gaining experience as I moved around the technical departments within No7 Beauty Company. I am now a level 6 apprentice, working as a Prototype Skincare Technician within the Product Development & Delivery team which I do whilst completing a degree in Chemistry with Industry at University of Nottingham.

My favourite part of my apprenticeship is the opportunities that are open to me. There are so many brilliant learning experiences and opportunities that I get out of my job and course that can be applied within each other, and being able to constantly learn and develop myself is something that I greatly appreciate.

During times of increased stress, whether that is an unexpected increase in workload, or when I am doing exams or coursework, I find it challenging to manage the time that I am working vs the time that I am committing to my learning. Getting everything done can be difficult if you aren’t strict with your time management.

I plan to continue completing my level 6 qualification. Once I have completed this I will review my experience and what I have learnt to see what I feel is the best next opportunity for me. Ideally this would be one where I can apply the experience and knowledge that I have gained over the past few years, but still do something that is new to me.
