Careers- How No7 Explains Skincare Science – Charlotte’s Story

Meet Charlotte, our Science Content Specialist at No7 Beauty Company. From breaking down complex concepts to celebrating our latest innovations, she’s dedicated to helping people understand the science that powers their skin.

Tell us about your career journey and how you became a Science Content Specialist for No7?

My career path hasn’t been a straight line. I always knew I had a love for health and science, but I wasn’t always certain about how I was going to apply myself in this area as being based in a lab wasn’t for me.

After completing a degree in Biology and then a Master’s in Medical Science, I realised how crucial it was to communicate the science facts both accurately and in a way that people understand and engage with. For example, it felt very rewarding after explaining to a patient a medical diagnosis in a way they could truly understand so they are empowered to make informed decisions about their health. It was then I knew that I wanted to be in a science translation role and to get people just as excited about science as I am.

I mixed my skill of communication with my creative side allowing me to showcase all the different ways we can communicate ranging from videos and info-graphics all the way through to public events and activities. It is this mixture alongside my science and medical background that has allowed me to become a Science Content Specialist for No7. Now, I get the chance to spread all our wonderful science to a range of audiences and educate people about the skin and our products.

How important is transparency in skincare science, and how does No7 uphold this?

Transparency in skincare science is incredibly important because consumers today want clear, honest information about what they’re putting on their skin. They’re looking for evidence based claims, understandable ingredient explanations, and reassurance that brands aren’t overstating results. Being transparent builds trust, empowers people to make confident choices, and helps raise standards across the entire beauty industry.

At No7, transparency is a core part of how we communicate our science. Every claim we make is backed by robust research, such as clinical testing, consumer studies, and collaboration with independent experts. We’re committed to translating complex scientific concepts into simple, meaningful explanations so people truly understand how our products work and why they deliver results.

Whether through packaging, digital content, training, or communication, we aim to be clear, honest, and evidence-driven. For No7, transparency isn’t just good practice, it’s fundamental to who we are.

No7 is known for science led skincare. How do you help translate complex scientific research into messages to people so they can understand?

My role is all about bridging the gap between research and everyday skincare understanding. Scientific concepts can often feel overwhelming, so I focus on making them clear, relatable, and meaningful. We have a wide range of audiences that we engage with from a science point of view including dermatologists and scientific experts, journalists, our in-store No7 Advisors and of course, the consumer. A key part of the role is knowing what each audience wants to know about the products and how we can adapt the language and details so that everyone comes away understanding the science.

I start by breaking down complex terminology into simple, conversational language that highlights what really matters. Instead of overwhelming people with data, I focus on the “so what?” behind the research, linking scientific findings to real world skin concerns and product results. I also use analogies, storytelling, and visuals to bring the science to life. These tools make concepts such as the anatomy of the skin and how key ingredients work a lot easier to understand.

Collaboration is key too. Working closely with our scientists, education and product teams ensures everything we communicate is accurate, credible, and rooted in evidence. Ultimately, my aim is to make No7’s science feel accessible, trustworthy, and empowering for everyone.

What does the role of Science Content Specialist involve?

Every day is different and varies depending how close we are to product launch or an event. Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of work into how we can display our science for a big dermatology conference in America, so working with designers and the events team to showcase our science highlights, which is exciting to see coming together!

I’ve also been working hard on bringing the science for our upcoming launch to life, through creation of assets that will be used in media briefings, conferences and digital platforms.  It’s really rewarding to see such assets being used to help bring our science to life.

Alongside upcoming launches, I also love to engage the wider community in our science and we often have tours in the labs where people can get up close and personal with the science. I have also delivered science talks to charities such as The King’s Trust which has been a true career highlight for me to be able to inspire the younger generation into science, as I am keen to tackle the common misconceptions around science and make it accessible to all.

There is so much more we get up to from webinars, internal engagements with the wider business, conferences and partnership engagements. It really is a role where you can have a go at anything and discover what you enjoy the most.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

What I love most about my role is the opportunity to make science feel meaningful and accessible to everyone. Skincare research is incredibly exciting, but it can also be complex, so being a part of the team who translates that innovation into clear, empowering messages feels genuinely rewarding. I enjoy taking something highly technical and turning it into a story that helps someone understand their skin better or choose a product with confidence.

I also love the variety. One moment I’m working with scientists and learning about the latest developments, the next I’m partnering with marketing or getting creative and doing some filming. Every day brings a new challenge and a new perspective, and that keeps the role dynamic and inspiring.

Most of all, I value the sense of purpose. No7’s commitment to evidence based skincare means the work I do helps build trust and clarity for consumers. Knowing I play a part in that is incredibly motivating.

What is your favourite No7 product?

I have a few favourites, but if I had to choose, it would be the 0.3% Pure Retinol Night Concentrate . It’s non-irritating on my skin and I have really seen an improvement in my skin texture and pigmentation, especially around my chin, where I had a few acne scars from when I was younger.
